NORTH COAST WINERY DRIVE
April 12 2008
We will meet at Alberto del Calvo's home in Sebastopol at 9 a.m.
(contact Alberto directly at ahdelcalvo@elmolino.org to sign-up and get directions). The wine tour will take us first to Topolos Winery in Sebastopol, where a turn-of-the-century farmhouse and hop barn awaits us and tasting of 70% off wine will dazzle you. From there, a short skip away is Ironhorse Winery with incredible wines and views of the entire Santa Rosa valley. We then take the backroads to Forestville and cross River Road, ending up in Porter Creek Winery on Westside Road (This is a tiny winery that produces most of their wines among the incredible scenery). Staying on Westside Road, we will then experience the exciting Davis Bynum Winery, winding our way northward to Rocchioli Winery (famous for Chardonnay), then to Hop Kiln Winery--on the site of the 1850's era hop kiln that supplied San Francisco with most of its hops. Hop Kiln is a delightful place to browse, wander the grounds and enjoy the lake and its picnic grounds. It is here where we'll enjoy each others company over lunch (bring your own or buy from Hop Kiln the makings) overlooking the majestic scenery and lake. We conclude the tour by visiting two additional nearby wineries just recently opened for business.
